Regional Bell Operating Companies

Regional Bell Operating Companies
   Abbreviated RBOC. The telephone companies formed as a result of the breakup of AT&T, finalized in 1984. Each of the RBOCs was assigned a specific geographical area, and each of these areas was divided into service areas known as local access and transport areas (LATA).
